'Prism' and Privacy Law
Dear Rt.Hon. Malcolm Rifkind,
I am writing to ask you, as my elected representative,
to urge the
government to amend legislation to ensure
the privacy rights of all
British, are respected and law upheld, including those laws and rights
enshrined in our existing privacy legislation.
Current legislation already provides the police with the tools to
identify and prosecute.
Without establishing the safeguards necessary in a free and democratic
society, we face potential anarchy.
I respectfully ask you, as my MP, to:
1. Insist that public hearings include all affected – the police,
citizens and telecommunications service providers – to ensure elected
officials understand the scope and effects of our legislation.
2. Support the legislation only if it contains adequate judicial
authorization and accountability provisions, Leveson (in order to
preserve the vital elements of openness and transparency that are
fundamental to UK’s democracy)
3. Move and support amendments that address the serious
implications for Britons’ privacy.
It is my sincere hope that you will take action to address the serious
concerns that have been raised about this and especially concerns over
'PRISM'.
Business could also fail to thrive as more and more hacking goes
unchecked.
I look forward to your response outlining what steps you will be
taking.
Yours sincerely,
E.C.Lucy Robillard, detaineee
