Freddie Mercury -' Kept the bastards honest' in Kensington, here with Michael Jackson



 Freddie kept Kensington fairly honest, there was a lot of laughter in those days. The joy, however, lessens at times, as our maturity evolves. You can sink, swim, DO SOMETHING about it - or just 'hold on' as our lovely Kipling advised. Freddie and Mary are still valued as residents and the spirit of Queen lives on here. One of my rare trips out was with my beloved brother Brian who managed, somehow, to get me to the free Queen concert in Hyde Park. It was oh so grand, kids of all ages sitting in trees, a flavour of 'Woodstock' but with added energy, me in my beautiful denim, patch bell-bottoms. Bri took a picture of me gawping at the stage and yelping along to 'I WANT TO BREAK FREE' - despite my internal panic and fear, I was unusually actively overriding the fear to enjoy the spectacle of joy that was watching Queen LIVE. I love me for that ! I remember Freddie's recording 'There Must Be More To Life Than This' with Michael Jackson. I expect that's when Mark Lester, a school chum in Mrs. Greensleeves class ('I'll do what the fuck I like' - age 11!) caught my shock but also my silent admiration! . Read more
